For the first time in my freelance life (which is still part time for now), I have more than one job going on at the same time. I used to fear being able to juggle multiple projects at the same time, thinking I would also feel guilty for working on one when I should be working on the other.

But so far, I’ve been able to balance several projects, my full time job, and continued learning pretty well. One thing it has forced me to do is be extremely efficient with my time management. I’m always looking for ways to improve my process to get more accomplished in less time, without a decline in the quality of my work.

One thing I’ve had to be more strict about is time tracking. I started using Harvest to track time on projects and Asana for project management. This has been tremendously beneficial to keep accountable to my progress, and continually gives me data to analyze for improving things.

As things are starting to get busier, I’ve thought about switching from using many different systems to put everything into something like 17Hats. I have seen a few people recommend it, and it looks like it would do everything I need. Having everything from capturing new leads, quotes, and contracts to invoices, bookkeeping, and time tracking certainly has its benefits.

I will probably make the jump at the beginning of 2017, or if/when things slow down enough to start learning a new system for everything.
